- An improved dairy farmer safety net
with direct payments that are not tied to current
production or price
- Revenue insurance and expanded forward contracting
to enhance farmers’ ability to cope with changes
in prices and output
- A Blue Ribbon Commission to identify needed
improvements in the nation’s milk pricing system
- Repeal of the dairy import assessment
to enhance long-term trade prospects
The 2007 Farm Bill provides an important opportunity
to modernize federal dairy policies. The International
Dairy Foods Association's Ensuring a Healthy
U.S. Dairy Industry: A Blueprint for the 2007 Farm Bill
recommends forward-looking policies that will help the
industry reach its market potential and provide a sustainable
safety net for dairy farms, while contributing to the
nation’s economic and environmental well-being.
